Modo n. °68 - Neuchâtel
After our inaugural wall action Inside Out: “La Source de Prébarreau”, EMOH LEEF launches its next large-scale intervention on the concrete wall facing our Atelier in Neuchâtel. This time, we are working with internationally renowned artist Eltono, known for his site-specific works and participatory protocols.
Born in 1975, Eltono has spent over two decades developing a practice rooted in public space. A flâneur, chronic observer and stubborn walker, he uses the street as support, studio and inspiration. Having lived and worked in Madrid, Beijing and now southern France, he has intervened in more than 120 cities worldwide, always guided by sensitivity to context, chance, and environment. His colourful, geometric compositions engage with architecture and communities, turning unpredictability into collaborative creation.
Eltono has exhibited in leading institutions such as Tate Modern, Somerset House, Fundación Miró and Artium Museum. In recent years, his gallery work has explored ways to translate the essence of public art into indoor settings, maintaining spontaneity and openness within formal environments.
With Modo °68, Eltono brings this approach to Neuchâtel in a community project that transforms randomness into a shared visual language. Over the weekend of October 4 & 5, 2025, participants will collaborate to create a large-scale collage of geometric forms. Using paper in specially chosen colours, we will spray-paint, cut, and mount shapes onto the wall, following a generative system where dice rolls decide the form, colour and placement. Even a lift might be needed to carry the artwork high up the wall.
By working with abstraction and collective methods, the piece opens up new perspectives for imagination while strengthening social bonds within the neighbourhood.
As with our last project, the artwork will not be permanent. Weather and time will slowly dissolve the piece, making space for what comes next: something new, shaped again by the community.
Participation is free of charge and open to everyone, regardless of age or experience. All you need is curiosity and the wish to contribute.
The finished mural will be celebrated at a public Vernissage on Sunday, October 5 at 17:00 – come join us!
Thanks to the service de la cohésion sociale of the city of Neuchâtel and all other donors & supporters to make this project possible.

So We Speak – Contemporary Jazz Stories Across Cultures
We are thrilled to present the duo Eugenia Choe (Korean-American pianist and composer, based in New York) and Song Yi Jeon (South Korean jazz vocalist and composer, active between New York and Europe). Both are widely recognised for pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz: Choe for her distinctive compositional voice and acclaimed recordings on SteepleChase and Sunnyside Records, Jeon for her hypnotic vocal artistry, award-winning projects, and her selection as protégé in the Rolex Arts Initiative 2023–24, where she worked closely with five-time Grammy winner Dianne Reeves.
Their joint project So We Speak, released in 2025 on Sunnyside Records, has earned international acclaim from JazzTimes, NPR and The New York City Jazz Record, and has been toured across the United States, Europe and Asia. Bringing together piano, voice and subtle electronic effects, the duo creates a sonic world that is at once intimate and expansive, weaving personal histories, improvisational freedom and luminous interplay into music that resonates deeply. Longtime collaborators and close friends, they embody a conversation between cultures and artistic languages, offering our audience in Neuchâtel the rare chance to experience a project at the forefront of today’s jazz innovation.
This concert is part of Les Portes de l’ART, Neuchâtel’s annual open studios weekend, and will take place in the relaxed atmosphere of our atelier. Feel free to stop by in the afternoon already to catch a glimpse of the soundcheck and share the vibe before the evening begins.
Join us for this first concert after the summer break, and don’t miss the performance of these truly amazing women!

Brazilian Voice & Piano – A Journey Through Rhythm and Emotion
Immerse yourself in a rich and soulful concert blending Brazilian vocal artistry and Afro-Cuban piano traditions. The duo of Ana Malta (Brazil) and Oscar Aldama (Cuba) brings together two vibrant musical cultures in an intimate performance full of rhythm, nuance and spontaneity.
With a focus on the voice as an instrument, Ana explores the depths of Brazilian genres such as Baião and Samba, reinterpreting them through vocal improvisation, rhythmic phrasing and emotional storytelling. Ana Malta blends extended vocal techniques and deep improvisation, echoing the playful, intuitive spirit of Hermeto Pascoal. Her voice becomes both melody and instrument—raw, expressive, and boundary-pushing. Oscar complements this with a dynamic piano approach that draws on jazz and Cuban influences, creating a refined and deeply expressive musical dialogue.
Through original arrangements, spontaneous interplay and fresh takes on Brazilian classics, the duo invites the audience on a journey that is at once lyrical, rhythmic and bold – a celebration of musical freedom and cultural connection.

With Women in HiFi, EMOH LEEF launches a new event series dedicated to making women visible in the technical fields of music production, audio engineering, and sound sciences — where women remain underrepresented.
The Opening Conversation brings together two unique voices:
Prof. Joseph Tarradellas, Professor Emeritus at EPFL Lausanne, offers insights into the history of women in sound industries — from early pioneers to contemporary innovators. He recently published a comprehensive study on the role of women in the evolution of sound technologies, bringing to light many forgotten contributions. In dialogue with Marguerite Kudelski, member of the founding family behind Nagra, they reflect on achievements, barriers, and future perspectives for women in the audio world.
Nagra, founded in Switzerland in 1951, is a world-renowned company specializing in high-precision portable audio recorders and advanced audio technology. Nagra’s iconic devices have shaped the history of sound recording in film, music, and broadcasting. Marguerite Kudelski will bring selected devices to the event, offering a tangible glimpse into the company’s technical legacy.
Cassy (UK/AT)
DJ, Producer & Label Head Cassy is one of the most respected figures in electronic music, with a career spanning over two decades. Born in London and raised in Austria, she has held legendary residencies at Panorama Bar (Berlin), DC-10 (Ibiza), and Rex Club (Paris), shaping dancefloors around the world with her deeply soulful and dynamic sets.
Her sound blends house and techno with emotional depth and groove, always rooted in authenticity. Cassy is also the founder of Kwench Records, where she explores her creative vision as both producer and curator. Her recent releases, created with her signature 808 setup and raw vocals, mark a confident return to form.
Now based again in Austria, Cassy is embracing a new chapter—staying true to herself and the music that moves her. As she puts it: “Drop the ego. Let’s keep it real.” She will be accompanied by her son and is looking forward to explore Switzerland. A session for sure not to miss!
Leila Adu (US)
We’re proud to host composer, singer and sonic visionary Leila Adu. Described as having a “velvety, soulful voice” and compared to Nina Simone and Joanna Newsome, Adu blends electropop, avant-classical elements and raw songwriting into a powerful, genre-defying experience. Leila Adu is also an Assistant Professor of Music Technology at NYU, firmly rooted in Brooklyn’s vibrant musical and academic communities.
Fresh off her 2024 album Moonstone & Tar Sands with PUBLIQuartet and a North American tour with Neil Young & Crazy Horse, she brings her poetic, political and intimate music to Switzerland for one special night. Don’t miss this rare chance to witness her unique soundworld – live, up close, and resonant.

The event will preview the Women in HiFi series, officially launching in autumn 2025. The program will include talks, masterclasses, workshops, showcases, and excursions. Guests will include leading mastering engineers, producers, sound artists, and innovators from Switzerland and beyond.
Hands-on sessions — from live beatmaking to sound design workshops — and visits to key audio venues such as the Swiss Museum and Centre for Electronic Music Instruments (SMEM) and PSI Audio will explore the intersection of technology, craftsmanship, and creativity.
Stay tuned for the next events of this series!

50th Anniversary Celebration Tour: “Open Me: A Higher Consciousness of Sound and Spirit”
Kahil El’Zabar has been one of the deepest and most forward-thinking artists from Chicago’s renowned improvised music scene for many years. As a long-time member of the groundbreaking Association for the Advancement of Creative Musicians (AACM) – an influential collective founded in 1965 to support avant-garde African-American musicians – El’Zabar created the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble in 1974. His vision was to explore the connections between African-American music, like jazz, and traditional African rhythms and instrumentation. Touring frequently throughout Europe and the United States, the group quickly earned a global reputation for its powerful and transformative performances.
Today, the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble features trumpeter Corey Wilkes, tenor saxophonist Kevin Nabors, cellist Ishmael Ali, and the charismatic Kahil El’Zabar himself on drum set, hand percussion, kalimba, and soulful vocalizations.
The Ensemble is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with the acclaimed album “Open Me: A Higher Consciousness of Sound and Spirit” (Spiritmuse Records, released March 8, 2024) and an extensive world tour. The album features a combination of El’Zabar’s original compositions and new interpretations of classics by Miles Davis and McCoy Tyner, enriched by the ensemble’s expanded instrumentation.
Their only concert in Switzerland will take place on June 1, 2025 at EMOH LEEF – a truly rare opportunity to experience this star, this icon, this phenomenon up close and personal. Meet and connect with Kahil El’Zabar in an intimate and unforgettable setting!
Damián Botigué aka Karmasound from Barcelona – brings his unique fusion of soulful rhythms, broken beat, and Latin-infused grooves to the floor. Expect deep vibes and irresistible energy – he’ll make us dance, no question.

Displayed on a prominent wall directly across from the Atelier, this project will create a powerful cultural moment, connecting our local community to a worldwide artistic expression.
