MURAL – Magic Unfolds in Random Acts of Lives

After our inaugural wall action Inside Out: “La Source de Prébarreau”, EMOH LEEF launches its next large-scale intervention on the concrete wall facing our Atelier in Neuchâtel. This time, we are working with internationally renowned artist Eltono, known for his site-specific works and participatory protocols.

Born in 1975, Eltono has spent over two decades developing a practice rooted in public space. A flâneur, chronic observer and stubborn walker, he uses the street as support, studio and inspiration. Having lived and worked in Madrid, Beijing and now southern France, he has intervened in more than 120 cities worldwide, always guided by sensitivity to context, chance, and environment. His colourful, geometric compositions engage with architecture and communities, turning unpredictability into collaborative creation.

Eltono has exhibited in leading institutions such as Tate Modern, Somerset House, Fundación Miró and Artium Museum. In recent years, his gallery work has explored ways to translate the essence of public art into indoor settings, maintaining spontaneity and openness within formal environments.

With MURAL, Eltono brings this approach to Neuchâtel in a community project that transforms randomness into a shared visual language. Over the weekend of October 4 & 5, 2025, 20 participants will collaborate to create a large-scale collage of geometric forms. Using paper in specially chosen colours, we will spray-paint, cut, and mount shapes onto the wall, following a generative system where dice rolls decide the form, colour and placement. Even a lift might be needed to carry the artwork high up the wall.

By working with abstraction and collective methods, the piece opens up new perspectives for imagination while strengthening social bonds within the neighbourhood.

As with our last project, the artwork will not be permanent. Weather and time will slowly dissolve the piece, making space for what comes next: something new, shaped again by the community.

Participation is free of charge and open to everyone, regardless of age or experience. All you need is curiosity and the wish to contribute.

We begin with a kick-off meeting on Thursday, October 2 at 18:00, where you can meet Eltono, connect with fellow participants and learn more about the process.

The finished MURAL will be unveiled and celebrated at a public Vernissage on Sunday, October 5 at 17:00 – come join us!

The Atelier

EMOH LEEF’s Atelier is a former glassblowing and painting workshop at the ground floor of an apartment building. The Prébarreau district of Neuchâtel is a vibrant, mixed-use area that brings together manufacturers, coffee roasters, workshops, public offices, and creative spaces such as artists’ and dance studios. While traces of its industrial past, like the old mill building, remain, the district has evolved into a hub of creative energy driven by its people. Today, it serves also as a pedestrian shortcut, where the community shapes the area’s artistic and cultural landscape. The area offers unexpected views of the collegial and other landmarks, and is just minutes away from the city center, lake, and main train station.
